Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's golf team shot a 286, one off the school record, Sunday at the Central Regional Preview at Meadowlark Hills G.C.
The Lopers are having a rare home meet as they host NCAA Central Regionals in May 2027. This 54-hole tournament allows teams a chance to see the course before then. Twenty teams, plus a UNK "B" squad, are taking part at Meadowlark (par 71; 5,908 yards).
With ideal conditions, the average score today was a 77.3 with seven shooting below par and another six firing a 71. The 286 has the Lopers ahead of league rivals Washburn (288), Central Oklahoma (292) and Rogers State (294). Earlier this season, UNK had a 285 in the second round of a tourney held in Blue Springs, Mo. The 2025 Lopers also fired 286 in the second round of regionals.
With six birdies and eight pars, Kansas senior Claire Berquist is tied for second with a 2-under 69 (34-35). She began the day with three consecutive birdies and ended with three straight pars. Arkansas Tech's Jaylee Castro is in the lead (3-under 68; 36-32). Next, Kansas senior Liz Lyons is tied for sixth with a 1-under 70 (33-37). She had two birdies to start the morning and later pared 12 holes.
Currently in the Top 25 are Mexican freshman Paulina Flores (73; 35-38) and Minnesota junior Calie Dockter (74; 35-39). Both had three birdies with Swedish sophomore Pella Broms (77; 39-38) having an eagle on the par 5 12th hole (458 yards). She's tied for 46th (77; 39-38). Finally, the Loper "B" squad had three birdies today and is being led by Texas senior Sofia Wildeman (80; 41-39).
Action resumes Monday at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Lopers varsity squad begins on holes 1-3 with the "B" team on holes 16-18.
