Kearney, Neb. – The nationally ranked Nebraska Kearney cross country teams finished runner up (men) and fourth (women) at the Augustana Invitational Friday morning in Sioux Falls.
This was the Lopers’ first meet of the 2026 season as the annual Greeno/Dirksen Invite at UNL was canceled last weekend due to course conditions. Thus, UNK added this meet to its schedule.
The 30th-ranked Loper men tallied 62 points to trail only 19th-ranked Washburn (54). Each squad placed five in the top 22 with UNK going second, eighth, ninth, 21st and 22nd. UNK bested, among others, 14th-ranked Augie (67) and NAIA nationally ranked Dort (129).
The 30th-ranked UNK women and second-ranked Dort both scored 103 points, with 18th-ranked Rogers State (81) and Black Hills State (86) in first and second, respectively. The Lopers had all five of their scorers crack the top 33, with Dort coming in third on criteria.
Individually, Lincoln junior Carter Hohlen was runner up (24:11.3), with Kansas sophomore Drew Elliott (eighth/24:39.7) and Papillion senior Quin Karas (ninth/24:40.8) also in the top 10. Mary's Gideon Hammah (24:09.8) was the men's winner. The UNK women saw McCool Junction junior Kassidy Stuckey finish third (20:38.7), with Newman's Katie Hughes leading the field (20:16.9).
Finally, Kansas sophomore Lily Brewer (13th/21:18.0), South Sioux City senior Mesuidi Ejerso (21st/24:54.9), Beatrice sophomore Josiah Quinones (22nd/24:56.5) and Kansas senior Charis Robinson (25th/21:35.3) each placed in the top 25.
The Lopers run again on Oct. 11 at D2 Pre-Nationals in Lawrence.
