GOTHENBURG — Jean N. Kneese, 96, of Gothenburg, formerly of Kearney, died Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg.
A private family service will be Friday.
Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Jean was born on Dec. 21, 1923, in Farnam to Arthur O. and Amy (Mercer) Heumphreus. She attended Farnam High School and graduated with the class of 1941. She later attended Kearney State College.
She married Forrest Saum on March 28, 1942, and later Milton Kneese on April 16, 1966. Jean taught school in Dawson County for four years and later worked for Buffalo County as a social worker for more than 39 years. She was a member of Kearney First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and also the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include her stepchildren, Kenneth Kneese of New Jersey and Michael Kneese of Hawaii; nieces, Terri Moore of Gothenburg and Kim Brown and partner Danny of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nephews, Doug Kniestadt and wife Irene of Franklin and Bob Kniestadt and wife Sandy of Denver; along with several great-nieces, great-nephews and other extended family.
Jean was preceeded in death by her parents; brother, James Heumphreus; sisters, Bernice Ostendorf and Marjorie Kniestadt; husband, Milton; son, Bradley Saum; stepdaughter, Jackie Kneese; and niece, Marilyn Decker.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
