KEARNEY — A Kearney woman admitted faking the April robbery at Kearney’s Quality Inn.
Chelsee Page, 20, pleaded no contest in Buffalo County District Court to theft and to false reporting, both misdemeanors, in the incident. She also pleaded no contest to a separate case of the misdemeanor attempted unauthorized use of a financial device more than $500 and less than $1,500 for taking a Kearney woman’s credit card from her purse and trying to make purchases.
In exchange for her pleas, a second charge of attempted unauthorized use of a financial device was dismissed.
Sentencing will be in January. Page is free on bond.
On April 28, Page was working as the night clerk at Quality Inn at 121 Third Ave. At about 9:40 p.m., she reported to Kearney Police Department that an unarmed man entered the hotel, assaulted her and took cash from the drawer.
But in June, Page was interviewed by KPD and recanted.
Court records say that in April, Page talked with Cesar Fuentes and Tiffany Sandin about places in Kearney they could rob. At the time, Sandin also was employed at Quality Inn.
The trio discussed stealing money from the register and making it look like a robbery. April 28, Sandin drove Fuentes to Quality Inn where Page was working.
Page took $250 from the register and handed it to Fuentes, who then left with the cash. Page then scratched herself on the chest and tore her shirt to appear as if she had been attacked.
Fuentes and Sandin both have been convicted for their roles in the robbery.
