KEARNEY — The former Vitality Center health club building in downtown Kearney may soon be available for social gatherings.

The Kearney Planning Commission will meet Friday morning to discuss rezoning the property at 115 E. 21st St. from M-1 limited industrial district to the central business district.

Vitality Center is closed, so owners Rod Rasmussen and Lenny Lovitt would like to use their building for assemblies and to rent it for parties, banquets, dances and other social gatherings.

Also on the agenda for the commission is a presentation on storm water management by Andy Harter, the city storm water program manager, City Attorney Mike Tye and City Planner Lance Lang.

Harter will present federal, state and local storm water quality regulations that relate to Kearney-area development. Tye and Lang will present Kearney storm water management practices and alternatives.

The  discussion is a report only. The city staff isn’t recommending any changes.
