Bruce and Tammy Blankenship of Kearney display a guitar signed by the band Sugarland that will be auctioned at the Kearney Catholic High School Foundation’s Gold fundraiser Saturday at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds. The Blankenships are co-chairs of this year’s event.
KEARNEY — Kearney Catholic High School will have its 15th annual GOLD Dinner and Auction Saturday.
“Kearney Catholic is all privately funded, so it’s important to be able to supplement the budget at the school and provide for things that wouldn’t be possible without GOLD,” organizer Bruce Blankenship said.
“It’s critical for the ongoing success at Kearney Catholic to have a successful GOLD year in and year out,” he added.
The event has raised more than $2 million the past 14 years.
Last year, funds from the event paid for new technology, textbooks and an addition to the art room.
Guests will enjoy a four-course dinner, elegant decorations, hospitality by Kearney Catholic students and more than 350 auction items.
The event is at the Exhibit Building at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.
The social and silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m., and the live auction will follow at 8:30 p.m.
“They’ve prided themselves on having the practical to the outrageous,” KCHS Foundation director Cindi Richter said.
Vacation packages to Napa Valley, Cabo San Lucas, Florida, Phoenix, Ariz., and Branson, Mo., will be auctioned.
Guests can bid to win four tickets to the U.S. Open Golf Tournament at Pebble Beach in California or a Chicago trip, including lodging and four Cubs tickets.
Richter said big items this year include an acoustic guitar signed by country music group Sugarland, a New York Yankees jersey signed by pitcher Joba Chamberlain and a trip to Seattle to watch the Husker vs. University of Washington game.
Jewelry, sports memorabilia, health packages, puppies and the latest in electronic toys also will be available at the auction.
GOLD volunteers will be honored Thursday at the 8:15 a.m. Mass at St. James Catholic Church.
A preview of the auction items will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday at the fairgrounds.
Tickets to the auction are $90 per person and may be purchased by calling the Kearney Catholic High School Foundation at 236-6903.
