LITCHFIELD - A Litchfield man has been convicted on four counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child.

According to a press release from Attorney General Jon Bruning, evidence showed that Charles Fieldgrove, 48, began abusing a girl while she was in elementary school and the abuse continued until she was in junior high school.

"Fieldgrove chose to prey on an innocent child, and now he is going to prison where he belongs," Bruning said.

Fieldgrove was taken into custody where he will await sentencing. Each count is a Class II felony, and Fieldgrove faces a maximum of 50 years in prison for each count.

Assistant Attorney General Randy Stoll handled the case in Sherman County District Court.
